You’ll be better off with our specialist advisers.
Independent advice from a chartered financial planner
As proud as we are of our chartered financial planner status, we know it might not mean much to you.
In fact, it’s our industry’s gold standard for quality and integrity. No other financial planning firm offering advice exclusively for dentists has this badge of excellence.
We take your money seriously
The way your career in dentistry is structured means you’ll rub up against challenges and opportunities unique to our sector.
At PFM, we’ve been giving financial advice to dentists since 1990, so we understand how to make the most of your money - from your early days right through to a long and fulfilling retirement.
Money is the means to achieving your aspirations. You can rely on us for straight-talking, independent advice throughout your career - and beyond.
Investment portfolio advice
When it comes to your money, we take a holistic approach. We’ve invested heavily in processes and people because we want to create and monitor the investment portfolio that works best for you.
Multiple ‘tax wrappers’ such as ISAs, unit trusts, OEICs and international bonds make sure your income and growth are as tax efficient as possible. And once we’ve assembled your portfolio, it won’t just sit there: our regular review process keeps it on its toes whatever’s happening in the wider economy. Investments can fall as well as rise so we encourage regular dialogue to ensure your strategy remains appropriate.
SIPP and income drawdown
Everyone wants a great retirement, with a comfortable income - and that’s why monitoring your pension investments now is vital.
We’re experts in advising on self-invested personal pensions (SIPPs) and how best to look after your money in retirement. We specialise in consolidating non-SIPP pensions too.
If you’ve accumulated personal pensions and need to take income or tax-free cash, picking the right option could make a huge difference. We understand the rules and regulations - specifically as they apply to dentists - and we’re here to guide you through them and help you make the smartest decisions for your future.
Lifetime and Annual Pension allowances
HMRC legislation is a minefield when it comes to NHS and personal pensions. Various protections are available to avoid a tax charge but these are often underused or misunderstood, especially if your adviser isn’t a specialist.
We understand the complex valuation process for NHS pensions and we’ll always give you top quality technical advice, with regular reviews.
“— Kenny Combes, practice owner, Scotland
PFM Dental has always given me comprehensive and highly professional advice. Jon Drysdale has handled my investment portfolio for several years now and he’s extremely knowledgeable, particularly in relation to the NHS pension scheme and the impact of the new lifetime allowances on pension planning.”
Whether pension time is looming or you’re in the early stages of your career, you may benefit from a pension review.
If you’re thinking of using ‘24 hour retirement’, it’s important to get specialist advice, especially if an NHS contract is involved.
And for younger dentists, come and talk to us about additional pension contributions, now the NHS pension age is linked to stage retirement age.
We know our way round each of the three NHS pension schemes, which have their own benefits and features. Let’s have a chat, to make sure you make the most of yours.
Early in your career, it’s all too easy to ignore financial planning.
But in fact it’s the ideal time to talk about making additional pension contributions and working out a Plan B to combat the ever-increasing NHS pension retirement age.
And there’s another priority too: arranging adequate and dental-specific income protection. We only work with dentists, so we’re best placed to help you find the best cover.
Inheritance tax mitigation
Death and taxes may be inevitable but there’s a lot you can do to reduce the burden of inheritance tax.
Everyone’s different and with several options available, it’s important to get specialist advice before making plans and drawing up a will.
